The turret over the front door of the A.H. Dahl building was a Westby Landmark for 66 years, 1898-1964. In 1916, when this photo was taken, Ramsland Brothers had their store in the Dahl building. In the southwest corner of the Dahl building was a shoe store that would soon become the Warner Shoe Store. The next three buildings were the Hagen Mercantile and next is the Josephine Michelet Millinery Shop that today is Borgen’s Restaurant.
The Westby Telephone Company, established in 1902, built the next building with their offices upstairs and a drug store on first floor about 1910. At the far end of the block is the Sveen and Sons Funeral and Furniture, two buildings.
Very visible in this photo are the new and first streetlights installed on Westby’s Main Street.
