Pleasant View Cemetery

In November 1862, a meeting was called by the Reverend C. Stensen for the purpose of erecting a church to be called the Methodist Episcopal Church. Prior to this time, members and interested families had held meetings in their homes for about 11 years. The first church was built in 1863 on East Coon Prairie about two miles east of Westby with the cemetery located immediately to the south of the church. Less than 20 years later, the church was sold and a church was built in Westby where the new United Methodist Church is located today. It is unknown when the first person was buried at the Pleasant View Cemetery but many of the early settlers of Westby were interred at this cemetery.
