Even Gullord's Barn |
Since there was no church at Coon Prairie until June 1, 1857, services were held in pioneer’s home and Even Gullord’s barn. This barn was built in 1852, in two parts, with a so-called threshing floor in the middle. This was large and roomy and when it cleared, swept and decorated with a few bouquets of flowers, it was quite festive to look at. In one end there was a small table with a white tablecloth which served as the pulpit, while the small congregation sat on a few planks or on the floor along the walls. It was here that Pastor Brandt, on July 1, 1852, conducted the first confirmation and it was here that 91 persons the next day celebrated the forming of the congregation by taking communion.
